Fundamentals of Trauma Recovery
Level I Certificate Training is designed to offer a Psychophysiological framework of trauma and how it is manifested in the body. Theories, basic skills and specific treatment for healing trauma are presented. This Course Study consists of 16 lessons, short quizzes and a 2.5 hrs. Live Webinar to deepen understanding of course study materials. Through a combination of online course materials, video demonstrations, case examples, and a live interactive webinar, this training offers a unique insight and understanding of best practice in trauma recovery.
Level 1 Training is NOT intended for students to learn to apply ISTP™ skills in clinical practice. This Course Study is intended to offer information on theories and psychophysiological framework for best practice in trauma recovery.
This 2 to 3 months course study is the prerequisite for level 2 training in Integrative Somatic Therapy Practice (ISTP)™. Presented as an online format, Level 1 course study consists of 16 modules covering theories, basic skills and body-centered treatments in the healing of trauma. Along with online Course Study materials, this training also includes a 3-hour live online webinar to deepen understanding of materials presented. 25 Continuing Education Credits (CEC) is granted through the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
This is a self-directed and self-paced Course Study to be completed within one year after date of registration. A 3.0-hour live webinar is offered bi-monthly. Short quizzes are included at the end of each lesson to reinforce learning. For Course Content, View HERE.
NEW ADMISSION CRITERIA:
ISTP™ Level 1, 2 and 3 are designed to prepare mental health professionals with specialized skills needed to competently apply ISTP™ in clinical practice. Our training builds on existing knowledge and skills in mental health care thus, providing advanced education rather than foundational training. Trainings in ISTP™ are intended for continuing education and are not designed as entry-level education for those new to the mental health field or whose professional focus may not be mental health. Admission to ISTP™ Trainings are designed for those who qualified and legally credentialed to work in a mental health profession. The Institute does not serve as a licensing or accrediting body, and this shift in admissions policy reinforces our role in providing specialized continuing education. This requirement aligns with the specific learning objectives and professional standards required for clinical practice using the ISTP™ model.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the psychophysiological framework and manifestations of trauma & shock on the body
- Identify the different types of traumas, and resulting symptoms
- Describe & identify signs of vicarious trauma and vicarious growth
- Explain how trauma affects the brain and the body’s survival responses to stress
- Describe Polyvagal Theory and practical skills required to strengthen social engagement
- Understand theory and practice of Attunement for co-regulation in trauma work
- Explain the importance of trauma release within the window of tolerance
- Describe Judith Herman’s model of trauma recovery and the rationale for its use with trauma survivors
LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
- Complete 16 online self-study Course Study modules
- Attend a 2.5-HR. online Webinar offered bi-monthly online
- Sign the Training & License Agreement
- Obtain a Certificate in Fundamentals of Trauma Recovery
- Register for Level 2 Training
- Work towards ISTP™ Certification in Level 3
Completion of Level 1 Course Study will NOT allow you to:
- Apply ISTP™ skills to work with clients in clinical practice
- Refer yourself as ISTP™ “Trained or Certified”
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Students have one year after date of registration to complete Level 1 Course Study. Access to Online course materials will be closed upon one year after date of registration. “Continued access” is reserved for students enrolled in Levels 2 and 3 training program. Continued access is limited to 4 years after date of registration.
